(G) THE MOCK EPIC

(G) The Mock Epic

It is also called the Mock Heroic Poem. a parody of the real Epic in a light non-serious mood. The mock Epic is written on a very trivial or funny incident in a light satirical spirit, but on this trivial story, a grab of classical conventions and supernatural machinery of a real epic is overlaid.

France and Italy set the fashion for a parody of the Epic form. Later on, the English poet's imitated it. "The Battle of the Frogs" and " Mice " in Greek are the examples of the mock-epic. Besides it, the English Pope's " Rape of the lock" is the best example of Mock Epic.
