What do you mean by short stories?
Short stories can be. written in prose as well in verse. The plot of a story can be comic, tragic, as romantic or satirical and it may be written in the form of fantasy, naturalism or realism. Short stories written in verse are popularly known as verse-tales. Many Elizabethan, Romantic and Victorian Poets, notably Chaucer, Lyly, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Shelley, Keats, Byron, Tennyson, Browning, and many others have written. beautiful verse-tales. M.H.Abrams says, "A short story is a work of prose fiction, and most of the terms for analyzing the component parts, the types, and the various narrative techniques of the novel are applicable to the short story as well."
The origin of the short story, either in verse or in prose, is as old as the origin of human society. However, the story in verse developed much earlier than the story in prose. In the modern era, short stories appear in newspapers, magazines, journals, periodicals, and educational anthologies. The number of short story writers is very large.
